Question

I am looking for furniture makers/brands that make solid wood bedroom furniture without veneers, and preferably ones that use old-fashioned carpentry techniques like dovetails, mortise and tendon, and etc. Also, on another note, is Broyhill a good furniture company? My sister is looking into getting the Fontana collection for her room and I wanted to check that out for her. I’m still trying to see if I can find solid hardwood furniture before I give up and go with something else that uses veneers. Help me on this! Thanks.

Pulling a Bedroom Together with Black Furniture and Blue Carpet

I am moving into a new apartment and the bedroom already has blue carpet. My bedroom furniture is a dark wood with black marble table tops and the headboard is black marble. How can I pull all these things together? What would be the best color for the walls?

Revamping Some Flat Pack Bedroom Furniture

I have some built flat pack furniture and my wife wants a revamp in the bedroom. She wants the green doors and drawer fronts painted with another colour. Should the surface of the furniture be melamine or chipboard? Will it stay looking good if painted as I am concerned about chipping and etc.?

If the surface is shiny and smooth with no blemishes or lumps then chances are, it will be melamine. You will have to prime the surface with a propriety melamine primer (b&q etc) and paint with your colour. Always remember that if you spray paint it will take your time and you will have to use several layers rather than one or two thick coats as this will help with knocks/chips etc. If you use a brush and you want a pro finish, then get a good brush, the better the brush the better the finish. I want to paint my bedroom a sunny yellow color. My bedroom furniture is black right now, but I’m going to refinish it to have a lighter color. The furniture has a shiny black finish on it. How would I refinish it? Should I paint or stain it? And what color should I choose to make it look nice with cream plantation shutters, beige carpet, and light yellow walls? Thanks.

There are items there that are less than £200. Additionally, a place that specialises in cheap furniture is Argos, but beware of their deliveries. I’ve had a couple of personal experiences where I’ve ordered something & then when it is all processed & delivery date was already arranged, they contacted me and said that it was already out of stock. I am in the market for some new bedroom furniture. I’m not necessarily in a hurry to get it, but I am curious about how long I should expect the process to take. I am having some plans on buying from a “showroom” type furniture store, as opposed to a warehouse or clearance center. Plus, I’m getting a king bed and I hear that most stores cater towards customers looking for queens. I guess I will have to “order” the furniture. If you ordered from a store like this, how long does it take for you to receive it? Also, I did find one set that I liked, but I was told that they can’t deliver for 7-8 weeks due to back order. Is that standard wait time or way too long? Please help!

If you really like the set and the price is fine for you, then I guess it is worth the wait. I had to wait that long to get the living room sofa I specially ordered. And my bed took even longer but then we had an artist make a special headboard so that made everything perfect for us.

Staining Bedroom Furniture?

I am painting my room, and had my closet redone. I am having some furniture made for my bedroom. My walls are a dark brown, and my trim is like a light medium blue which is more of an ocean color type. What color should I stain my Bedroom furniture? I was thinking of a faded red? Where can I find a Disney collection of Hannah Montana bedroom furniture close to Fresno, California? I found the collection on rooms2go website but they don’t have stores in California. The bedroom set has a four poster bed with trundle and dresser with matching mirror and bedside table. Why does my new oak bedroom furniture keep cracking?

We bought some new solid oak bedroom furniture recently, and the oak just keeps on splitting. The company has already replaced the wardrobe doors but it has happened again, and the other furniture is now showing small cracks. The room is in normal temperature, it cost us a small fortune, and we are at our wits end thinking what to do. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you may have a high humidity level in your home which can cause cracking in any wood. Moisture can probably get in and causes the cracking. Try getting a dehumidifier and place it inside the bedroom. That may fix the problem. Also, you may use some lemon oil on your furniture to protect it or look for some polish called Guardsman. It is also very good in conditioning the wood. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
