Metal Bedroom Furniture

Question

I want to paint my bedroom a sunny yellow color. My bedroom furniture is black right now, but I’m going to refinish it to have a lighter color. The furniture has a shiny black finish on it. How would I refinish it? Should I paint or stain it? And what color should I choose to make it look nice with cream plantation shutters, beige carpet, and light yellow walls? Thanks.
